Sandy Kaufmann has been an advocate, a music lover, a rock to lean on for so many people in our String Summit family. She may be “Mama K” to most of us, but she is also mom to Ben Kaufmann, a member of Yonder Mountain String Band. This year, Sandy joins Scott Loeber, Ryan Smith, Colin O’Brien, Peggy Davis, Mark Burnell, and Brian and Shari Band as a member of the String Summit shave squad. Sandy shaved her head to raise money for Chelsea’s Closet, a local organization that provides costume therapy for seriously ill children across Oregon and Washington. When we asked Sandey why she wants to shave her head she said “In my lifetime,I have said goodbye to family and friends who lost their brave battle to cancer. I know how difficult the fight can be and I can’t imagine how difficult it is for a child. Chelsea’s Closet helps those kids by bringing them joy and laughter. I can’t think of a better medicine! I am blessed with lots of hair and by shaving my head I can help erase cancer forever while bringing greater awareness about the awesome work that Chelsea’s Closet does and provide them financial support? Well, it was an easy decision. If not now, when? Let’s do this!”
Sandy raised over $11,000 for Chelsea’s Closet! This money helped bring costumes to over 3000 kids facing life-threatening illnesses! Thanks Sandy!!!
